Garage doors in the Table Bay & West Coast
This is the coastal corridor: Table View, Milnerton, Blouberg, Parklands and up the West Coast. Dense freestanding housing with a garage on nearly every plot, sand and salt in the air, and one of the strongest afternoon winds in the metro. If your garage door is within a few kilometres of the sea here, the sea is working on it every day.
What is different about garage doors in the Table Bay
Salt air corrodes the mechanism
Salt-laden air corrodes garage-door springs, cables, tracks and motor housings from the inside out, while the outside still looks fine. A spring that would give a decade of service inland can fail years earlier here, and a cable can corrode through where it passes over the drum. It is the single biggest local factor in this corridor and it is why our coastal advice page exists.
Wind-driven sand and dust
The south-easter lifts sand and dust off the open ground and beaches, and blows it into tracks, rollers and the motor housing. Sand in a track grinds the rollers and the door's wheels flat; dust in a motor's vents shortens its life.
Dense freestanding homes and body corporates
Blouberg, Parklands and Big Bay grew fast, and a lot of the housing is in estates and complexes where the driveway is shared and the door's appearance is regulated. Replacing a door can need a managing agent's approval, and a shared driveway means access has to be arranged.
Corrosion moves faster here
Salt air, wind-driven sand and damp all attack the mechanism in this corridor. A door that is serviced twice a year here lasts noticeably longer than one serviced once.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover the whole Table Bay?
Yes. Work is passed to contractors who cover the Table Bay & West Coast area, including Table View, Milnerton, Bloubergstrand, Parklands, Sunset Beach, Big Bay, Century City, Royal Ascot, West Beach, Melkbosstrand.
How do I get a contractor for a door in the Table Bay?
Send us the suburb, the door type and what the door is doing. We pass the job to a contractor who covers your area, and you deal directly with them on price and timing.
Is a stuck door treated as urgent in the Table Bay?
Say whether the car is trapped or the house is left open. Those jobs are routed as a priority rather than as routine work.
Why is my door corroding so fast?
Because it is near the sea. Salt air corrodes springs, cables, tracks and motor housings from the inside while the outside still looks fine.
Is a higher-cycle spring worth it here?
On a door that runs often, yes. Coastal corrosion shortens a spring's life, and a higher-cycle spring gives back some of that.
